Among the world’s first and leading sustainability graduate schools, Presidio was founded on the simple premise that we inhabit a world increasingly defined by our shared destiny, not our differences, where private enterprise and the public sector, commerce and the common good, are companions, not competitors.

Today, Presidio is poised to move from a successful start-up to a global engine for sustainability. With more than 500 business and public administration graduates positioned at the forefront of the field, Presidio has already made a substantial impact, helping forge a new sector at the intersection of for-profit and for-benefit.

How has Presidio achieved this in just eight years?
Through the power and promise of Sustainable Management.

Sustainable Management is not just a concept. It is an integrated, applied approach to learning that sees problems as a whole and designs solutions that account for human, economic and environmental concerns. Presidio embeds sustainability into every course – from leadership to accounting, marketing to economics. Through our renowned Experiential Learning program, students apply sustainability frameworks and methods to real cases in large and small companies, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

In 2003, Presidio pioneered the field of sustainable management education with 22 students and a handful of faculty. In 2012, Presidio has an accomplished team of over 40 faculty and staff, 250 students and a global reputation. We offer three pathbreaking degree programs, Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration and a dual MBA/MPA, as well as an Executive Certificate, all in Sustainable Management. Going forward, we aim to educate hundreds of business and public leaders each year guided by our 10-year strategic plan, Propel Presidio.

During the next decade, we seek nothing short of becoming the world’s premier training ground, research center and convener for sustainable management, located in the heart of the field, the San Francisco Bay Area, and in a remarkable place, Presidio National Park, which gives shape and meaning to so much of what we believe in – the union of business and policy, of community and ecology. These goals will be pursued along a “2-5-10” year framework, with the first two years focused on strengthening Presidio’s core capacities to propel our school to the next level.
